Experts in functional systems safety

CDS offers comprehensive advice and support in the field of functional systems safety. Our services enable our clients to deliver systems and equipment in accordance with industry best practice and prevailing legislation.

Our Safety Engineers are all ex- military personnel with significant experience of the delivery of safety and risk management advice to clients in the UK defence sector including the MoD and major defence contractors.

We have considerable experience in producing Safety and Environmental Case documentation for in-service, legacy and urgent operational requirement (UOR) equipment including standalone equipment, platform installations and transmitter sites.

Deliverables include:

  • Safety Appraisal – Safety Cases produced retrospectively for legacy equipments
  • Safety Case Report Part 2 – developed through design and manufacture, also produced for legacy and UOR equipment
  • Safety Case Report Part 3 – the Operational Safety statement that will support system acceptance
  • Environmental Impact Screening and Scoping (EISS) – identifies direct and indirect, positive and negative environmental aspects and impacts of a project, in accordance with POEMS
  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) – identifies both appropriate mitigation measures for adverse environmental impacts as well as ways in which positive environmental impacts can be optimised

The existence and periodic review of the Safety and Environmental Cases are the foundation upon which Safety and Environmental assurance is established and maintained.

A Case is a structured set of documentation that is used to justify the Safety and Environmental claims of the equipment throughout its life. It provides evidence and arguments that hazards have been fully addressed and any residual risks have either been reduced to as low as reasonably practical (ALARP) (safety) or are acceptable (environmental).
