Accessibility Statement

This is an accessibility statement for cds.co.uk

Accessibility is important to us at CDS. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this site is

When developing and maintaining this site we aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as a minimum. However, we know some parts of this site do not always meet this standard and are not as accessible as we would like them to be. This includes:

  • The Search box that opens from the top sitewide navigation does not appear in a logical position for people using keyboard navigation. If you are doing this, use Shift+Tab to navigate backwards to the input fields after opening the Search box.
  • There are small colour contrast issues on some pages.
  • Some of the older PDFs may not be fully accessible to people who use screen readers.
  • There are some animations that cannot be paused.

We are aiming to fix these issues and further improve accessibility by redeveloping this website.

Feedback

We are always trying to make things better. Please contact us if you experience any accessibility issues not listed on this page.

Assessment approach

This statement was prepared on 10 April 2024 by a CDS Accessibility Specialist.

We tested the site used a mixture of:

  • Automated testing using Deque axe DevTools.
  • Manual testing using keyboard navigation, system adaptations and assistive technologies.
